{Architect}, a graduate of the Faculty of Interior Design at Krakow's Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts, decided to create a concept for the modernization of the Tarnów-Moscice railroad station building complex. His project includes the renovation of the main modernist station building and the adjacent smaller structure. Interestingly, the model of the entire premise was made in Virtual Reality technology!
The project, called "Meta - Morphosis of the Tarnów-Mościce railway station. Adaptive reuse for climate. Architectural recycling" is a master's thesis carried out under the direction of Professor Beata Gibała-Kapecka and assistant Kai Czajczyk.

Przemysław Poręba proposed to modernize the building complex, listed in 2021 in the register of monuments of the Tarnów-Most Railway Station, along with its surroundings. The student's goal was to emphasize the qualities of the location, taking into account the historical history of Mościce. The diploma study includes the renovation of the main, dilapidated building, as well as the adjacent smaller one, giving new and adapting their existing functions, to modern requirements, standards and building regulations. In addition, the modernization and redesign also includes the former technical rooms under the platform.

The area around the station has also undergone a thorough metamorphosis, opening the space to new possibilities. As the author believes, the creation of a vast open square will allow cultural, entertainment and events related to the industrial district of Tarnów to be organized periodically right in front of the pavilion.

multimedia belt as a guide
One of the key ideas of the project is to merge the buildings - their interiors and exteriors by means of a multimedia belt, which acts as a kind of guide.
The belt guides the user around the place, communicates with him using the flow of information. In addition, my project respects issues related to the concept of Baukultur, protection of the integrated environment and architectural recycling. The formal solutions are built on the idea of dialogue with the environment, trying to apply, first of all, the concept of perception of equality," explains the designer.

interior metamorphosis
The interior of the station'smain lobby in Przemysław Poręba's design underwent a strong metamorphosis. Brick partition walls were removed from under the mezzanine and replaced with glass walls.
The glass walls are meant to give the impression of an open space with the mezzanine levitating in the central part, the author adds.
Inside, landscaping elements, such as an illuminated bistro enclosure, and cash registers along with an information desk have been designed. Along the southern wall, the designer has provided space for a string of multimedia screens that can display up-to-date information on train departures and arrivals. In addition, they will perform the function of information flow by communicating with the viewer.

The mezzanine area, which is the waiting room, has been enriched with new seating. The designer also took care of visual communication - users are guided to each zone by dark granite strips arranged in a special rhythm.
On the other hand, level -1 houses a number of technical and social rooms, toilets, as well as storage rooms and luggage rooms of various sizes. In addition, another exhibition area is located in the immediate vicinity of the passageway, just opposite the staircase.

The multimedia pavilion also found its place in the development area. Its elongated facade, in the form of a glass folding folding wall, allows for quick and easy folding. This type of solution gives the opportunity to bring the exhibition out to the square in front of the pavilion.
In this way, the exposition located inside will be expanded or connected with the external one. In turn, extensive glazing provides the opportunity to observe the exhibition inside, even when the institution is closed," explains Przemyslaw Poręba.

Just in front of the station building and the pavilion, the author proposed a sculptural installation, which is made up of geometric forms submerged in a water basin. The water basins are located along the entire length of the site, and its flow continues in the floor of the station building, reaching the interior of the café.
A diploma in Virtual Reality technolgy
The author introduced a number of ecological solutions. He proposed solar batteries on the sloping roof, and the introduction of vegetation mats prevents the pavilion from overheating in summer and provides additional thermal insulation in winter.
More greenery will create a natural habitat for insects and small animals. The installation of a system for collecting and storing "rainwater" will solve the issue of excessive water wastage and power the watering of green areas, the designer adds.

It is also worth noting that as a result of cooperation with expert Bartłomiej Kaminski and Anna Syczewska, thanks to funding from the project Designing the Future - a program for the development of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts, the concept was made inVirtual Reality technology. The model created with Unreal Engine 5 allows the viewer to move into a conceptual vision of the designed station building, a multimedia pavilion with its surroundings. This is the first model of this type of design work from interior architecture made at the Faculty of Interior Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow.
